How To Do Denim From One Of The Original It Girls

For a night out on the town, Alexa Chung tends to opt for daring silhouettes that are heavily-embellished—and they’re usually pieces that are straight off the runway. An example: her recent appearance at the star-studded re-opening of the National Portrait Gallery, where she wore a sequin cut-out jumpsuit by Nensi Dojaka. On her days off, though, Alexa is a fan of a good pair of classic high-waisted jeans with a straight leg and a sharply tailored blazer. The style muse always manages to elevate her everyday attire with chic details, such as an It-bag or a statement shoe. Her latest appearance is proof that her tried and tested style formula is as effective as ever.

While out in London’s Notting Hill neighborhood this week with her boyfriend Tom Sturridge, Alexa delivered a textbook example of her effortless-yet-polished off-duty aesthetic. The ensemble featured a dark blue pair of straight-leg, high-rise jeans (of course), a brown crewneck T-shirt, and a cream linen blazer sans lapels. Chung opted for a black leather Miu Miu top-handle bag (her favorite style at the moment), and black patent leather pointed-toe kitten heels (this summer is all about a teeny kitten heel).

While she enjoys experimenting with high-fashion looks for events—including brands like Prada, Miu Miu, Erdem, and Simone Rocha—Alexa’s off-duty fashion moments are often the most authentic reflection of her personal style. And when it comes to her daily uniform, the old saying holds true: if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.
