Liza Soberano steps into Hollywood in style, making headlines with both her acting prowess and stylish appearances. In an exclusive interview with Vogue Philippines, celebrity stylist Maeve Reilly goes into detail about Soberano’s looks.

As she breaks into the international scene, Liza Soberano makes sure that she does it her own way. The 26-year-old actress took a risk and had her Hollywood debut with her performance in Lisa Frankenstein, where she played the bubbly and outgoing role of Taffy. As it turns out, it was worth it. Her performance was met with praise from both critics and viewers alike, opening up new doors for the Filipina actress.

Being a risk-taker is also what makes Soberano’s style unique to her own. Maeve Reilly, Soberano’s stylist, says that this quality of hers is “a dream.” “She’s willing to try stuff that other people wouldn’t even have been willing to,” she says. Coming from a stylist like Reilly, this is high praise, as she has dressed the likes of Megan Fox and Hailey Bieber. She shares that she and Soberano “hit it off” when they met and they are both “on the same page” when it comes to style and building her presence in the United States.

“She’s so stunning and beautiful that the silhouettes don’t need to take away from her beauty,” Reilly says. In an exclusive interview with Vogue Philippines, Maeve Reilly shares more details about Liza Soberano’s looks for her international appearances.

Reilly says that she “let the look do the talking” for Liza for the Lisa Frankenstein press day. Soberano wore a neutral-toned Sportmax ensemble featuring shoulder pads and an asymmetrical skirt paired with simple shoes and accessories. “The interesting shape and the skirt give it that forward uniqueness,” Reilly says. “It’s a great first look doe her, I think that she’s a risk taker but also sophisticated and classic at the same time.”

Lisa Frankenstein Premiere

At the premiere, Soberano wore an Olivier Theyskens dress. “We wanted something edgy, moody, and dark in color to represent the film,” Reilly shares. She also shares that originally, the premiere was supposed to be held at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery, which played into the styling of the look. “We wanted to keep it really dark. The silhouette was really beautiful and it really shows off how beautiful her face is,” she says. “The different textures in the dress are also something unique.”

SAG Awards

Soberano stepped into the previous awards season in an “old Hollywood glam” fashion. At the Screen Actor’s Guild (SAG) Awards, she wore a black embroidered bodice and a blush Midako gown by American designer Pamella Roland. While the dress is a vision in itself, the look was elevated by the Le Vian Couture Peach Morganite and Diamond necklace. “The morning of the SAG awards was hunting for a necklace with that same pink color from the skirt,” Reilly shares. “On the morning of the awards, it became available and it was perfect with the colors. It felt easy and effortless.”

Crunchyroll Awards

Soberano is not only making a name for herself in Hollywood; she’s also breaking into the international scene. At the Crunchyroll Awards 2024, Soberano presented the “Best Anime Song” award in a yellow-orange sequined midi dress by David Koma paired with silver platform pumps from Jimmy Choo. “It was a no-brainer,” Reilly says. “She looks beautiful in color and I think with the nature of the award ceremony being fun and vibrant, it also plays into the theme.”

Vanity Fair Party

Christopher John Rogers doesn’t dress a lot of people, Reilly explains, so when he was willing to work with a new face in Hollywood, she was excited. “He just gets it,” she says. For the Vanity Fair party, Soberano donned a white “architectural” Christopher John Rogers top and skirt. “This is a fashion-forward. It’s an avant-garde look that I don’t think anyone would be willing even to try on, let alone wear.  It’s an interesting shape and I think it sets her apart,” she says.

Lastly, Soberano ended the Hollywood awards season in a Stella McCartney dress paired with a Jimmy Choo minaudière, Dolce & Gabbana shoes, and silver jewelry from A. Jaffe. “The dress with the white high neck and crystal down the back is a really simple silhouette that’s flattering on her,” she says. “Once she tried that on, we didn’t try anything else on because it was so clear that it was the one and we just loved it right away.”
