From the glitz and glam of the 00s to inklings of childhood nostalgia, BYS Fashion Week 2023 opens with a colorful nest of stories.

BYS Fashion Week is back in full swing as designers Ha.Mu, Antonina, Rafa Worldwide, and Randolf open with collections that teeter in between dream-like maximalism and dark nostalgia. Vibrant shadow, pops of color, and sleek and striking textures graced the runways of last night’s shows, each designer showcasing their unique styles and masterful storytelling.

Here are some of the standout beauty moments from BYS Fashion Week 2023:

RAFA WORLDWIDE: Early 2000s Supermodel Meets Dark Elegance

Rafa Worldwide took us on a trip down memory lane, harking back to the glamorous spirit of early 2000s supermodels with long, pencil-thin eyebrows in either black or dark red. Accompanying the nostalgic brow, models also sported tightlined eyes and long-and-spiky or barely-there lashes, reminiscent of the sultry, smudged eyeliner looks that were all the rage in the era of the Y2K. Completing the look were long chrome nails with detailed embellishments, adding a futuristic touch to the dark, elegant ensembles.

ANTONINA: Sleek, Wet, and Weathered

Accompanied by sounds of rain, Antonina’s latest collection is storm-inspired. Dewy looks, rained-on hair, and sleek, structured updos reminiscent of the aftermath of a storm grace the budding brand’s runway looks. Silver and blue foliage and icy-white accents around the eyes emulate soft water splatters on the center of the face, while a touch of brutality makes its way into the mix with facial piercings and sharp winged flicks.

HA.MU: All About The Eyes

Ha.Mu brought drama to the forefront with uniform shades of deep red shadow and full dramatic lashes that frame the eyes, invoking an air of dark fantasy – an interesting juxtaposition with the collection’s otherwise soft, bright, and whimsical colors and textures. Complementing the bold eye makeup, the rest of the face remained bare save for a subtle gloss. Models were notably styled with either bold, statement-making brows or the daring choice of none at all, leaving no room for the in-between.

RANDOLF: Pops of Color, Glitter Under Eyes, and Over-The-Top Embellishments

In their collection entitled “Ready to Serve”, Randolf brings to life a diner full of customers through the sleepy eyes of diner staff slipping in and out of wakefulness. In this dream-like reimagining, models are adorned in a range of whimsy and theatrical makeup. A splash of color on the inner corners, graphic liner in the shape of stars, glitter under eyes, and a full-face of rhinestone embellishment — Randolf was all about loud character. Hairstyles harkened back to the vibrant fun of the ‘90s, with spiked buns and sleek sides. Male models joined the fun, embracing flushed cheeks in peachy hues and perfectly tousled, fluffy brows.
