The 2025 Met Gala was a true celebration of personal style, from the custom tailoring on display to the head-turning accessories and striking make-up moments. In contrast to the punk panda eyes, mixed metal make-up and bright purple hair of themes past – Superfine: Tailoring Black Style brought a playful yet refined approach to the elegant fundraiser.

In fact, the beauty details this year were so delicate that you may just have missed them. Below, we round up the best beauty looks to take note of.

Blinged-up brows and face embellishments

Lupita Nyong’o is no stranger to shimmer. For an extra splash of glamour the actress adorned her eyebrows with black and blue sequins – keeping her perfectly groomed skinny brow shape intact. These blinged-up brows complemented the jewels that carefully dressed sections of her long, loc ponytail. “[Black dandyism] has created space to reframe how we view elegance, especially in the context of Black identity. It’s about honouring the work of our ancestors – the dressmakers, the tailors, the ones who understood craft down to the thread,” her hairstylist Vernon François, shared with British Vogue ahead of the event.

Chappell Roan also favoured a bedazzled brow look, opting for an angular outline, just above her highly placed glittery eyeshadow. The same silver shadow was used to draw faux tears down Roan’s cheeks, shaded with a bright purple colour that was also dotted on the base of her eyelids. “We channelled the glamour and freedom of the disco era – think Sylvester, Superfly, superfine tailoring, and unapologetic shine,” make-up maestro Pat McGrath told Vogue.

Doechii is known for re-inventing the rules. Whether in the studio or on the red carpet, she’s got a show-stopping twist up her sleeve. For her Met Gala debut, the rapper opted for a bouncy afro and deep brown lip liner, glazed over with a gloss for a blended, ombre effect. Forgoing her usual face tape moment, she still kept the look fresh and exciting – this time, with a subtle faux face tattoo on just one side of her upper cheek. Spelling out “LV” and applied to match her natural complexion – the glam was realised by Chelsea Uchenna and Malina Stearns. “I felt inspired by the theme of ‘student of hip hop’ and I feel like that’s very dandy… ” Doechii told Teyana Taylor on the red carpet.

You can’t inject bling to your beauty look and forget about those pearly whites. Grillz were a major feature on the Met Gala 2025 red carpet. Everyone got the memo, from co-chairs A$AP Rocky and Pharrell Williams to rapper Doechii and model Alton Mason.

While some guests, such as Taraji P Henson, opted for a subtle pop of jewellery on their teeth, others went all out – Shaboozey, we’re looking at you – flashing a turquoise smile.

On the nails front, glimmering 3D manicures were on the menu. Cynthia Erivo did not disappoint and came ready to pose with her signature stiletto manicure – this time made up of black and red jewels – all while donning a subtle heart-shaped faux face tattoo.

Athlete Sha’Carri Richardson was stopped mid-interview with LaLa Anthony to show the camera her whimsical precious stone and floral nails – not to mention Ego Nwodim’s button mani and Simone Biles’s perfect peach nails.

Two modern-classic styles popular among those with Afro-textured hair reigned supreme at this year’s Met Gala. That’s right, it was the sleek buss down – as seen on Savannah James – cascading past the hips in all its sleek glory, and blown-out fluffy curls – showcased by Cardi B and Angela Bassett.

Meanwhile, Anne Hathaway switched up her usual long, beachy brown tresses for a voluminous, slicked-up ponytail. We also couldn’t help but ask how Damson Idris’s super short coils looked so perfect, after being packed into a bedazzled helmet. Elsewhere on the red carpet, Lorde unveiled a dangling fish accessory at the bottom of her slicked-back, braided ponytail.
