Whether on holiday or at home, makeup often slips off one’s face when temperatures surge. Sweat, humidity and excess oiliness can all prompt a challenge in the makeup department, which is why finding formulas with excellent staying power – and layering them – can make all the difference to how you look and feel in the heat. Here, we share some of our favourite long-wear makeup buys that can withstand high temperatures and the skin situations that accompany them.
Primer
Prep is everything and a good primer can act as a barrier, creating an adherent surface between your skin and makeup, while also helping to control oil and shine. These two primers are both excellent for locking makeup to the surface, plus they’re packed with ingredients to prevent dehydration.
Tinted SPF
Wearing SPF is a must in every type of weather, but it’s especially important when the sun is shining. These tinted sunscreens make achieving a beautiful complexion while wearing it a total breeze – you won’t shy away from reapplying either.
Setting Spray
Imparting a lightweight, flexible film over your makeup, setting sprays – the good ones, anyway – really can help your makeup stay put. Top tip? Spritz after you’ve applied your foundation, apply powder, then spritz again for supreme staying power.
Powder
So many of us fear applying setting powder because it feels old fashioned. However, the new generation of formulas are feather-light and imperceptible, yet they work hard to absorb excess oil (and therefore reduce shine), smooth the skin and extend base longevity.
Tints
Forget cream-based products, if you want your makeup to stay put in the heat, it might be worth trying a stain or tint. Why? Because they soak into the top layer of the skin (rather than sitting on top) which makes them more resistant to rubbing off. From bronzer to blush and lip products, these formulas work a treat.
Waterproof mascara
To ensure you don’t get transfer or smudging, a waterproof mascara is your best bet. These picks don’t compromise on efficacy, but won’t budge after they’ve been applied.
Blotting papers
And for on-the-go shine management? You need a blotting paper. Keep these in your purse for whenever the need arises.
