From plain gloss to a shiny statement red, BYS Fashion Week 2023 reimagines the glossy lip in five different ways.
BYS Fashion Week 2023 was a celebration of the multifaceted nature of makeup. Among a myriad of vibrant colors and a range of aesthetics that walked the runway, it was glossy textures, with ’90s-inspired minimalist skin and a sheer, wet-look lip, that took center stage. One thing became abundantly clear: there are numerous ways to wear a glossy lip.
Gloss, Just Gloss
Designers like Vania Romoff, Randolf, Orias, Antonina, and Ha.Mu all had different ways to make a statement on the runway. However, all demonstrated the sheer power of simplicity with a swipe of gloss. Models strutted down the runway with natural lips that glistened, proving that sometimes, less truly is more.
The Matching Lip
Neric Beltran unveiled a series of monochromatic looks for his bridal collection, and peachy hues reigned supreme. From cheeks to lids and lips, this warm and delicate palette takes the blushing bride to the next level. Achieve an effortlessly chic look with a glossy lip that matches the hues on your cheeks.
Two-Toned Drama
Rafa Worldwide dared to be different, featuring models with two-toned glossy lips that are hard to miss. Alternatively called ‘ombré lips’, where darker pigment on the outer lip blends in and contrasts a brighter color on the inner. This bold fashion statement elevates the glossy lip game to new heights.
The Classic Red
Cheetah Rivera’s beauty statement was the bold red lip. According to the designer, she imagines the Cheetah Rivera woman to be “dangerous and sexy, fearless and unapologetically expressive.” The red lip, drawn precisely with a cupid’s bow, perfectly embodies this ethos. A statement red lip is a timeless classic, and topped with a light sheer gloss, it takes on a renewed face as an accessory for the delicate feminine.
90s Lip Palette
Chris Nick’s collection paid homage to the New York City nightlife, combining ’90s grunge with ‘00s flair. Lips remained glossy, but the colors took a nostalgic turn with muted beige and pinkish-brown shades. This throwback lip palette added an edgy touch to the runway, reminiscent of a bygone era that seems to be on its way to make a comeback.
