As Phillip Lim makes a heartfelt homecoming back to the physical runways of New York Fashion Week, Vogue Philippines’ Melissa Levy shares her insider’s perspective behind the scenes.
In Manhattan’s Chinatown, the 3.1 Phillip Lim show felt like a celebration on all fronts—a celebration of New York City, Asian-American identity, and the signatures that make Phillip Lim one of American fashion’s quintessential designers. He paints a candid portrait of the city via a remix of American sportswear, hoping it reflects something of “our brand’s love story with the ever-evolving tapestry of New York,” he took to his Instagram story to write.
Lim’s ruched tops and dresses, asymmetrical denim skirts, and cropped khaki jackets were styled by Melissa Levy, who most recently added Vogue Philippines contributing fashion editor to her ever-growing list of multihyphenate titles. For the show, she had lent her “spirit and her eye,” Lim continued on Instagram, sending her his gratitude.
In Levy’s styling diary, she shares the backstage moments that made the show possible, from planning with the 3.1 team hours before the show to last-minute finishes on the models’ looks. See behind the scenes of the 3.1 Phillip Lim Spring/Summer 2024 show at New York Fashion Week below.
