New York Fashion Week wrapped up on September 14 with over 100 brands showing their Spring/Summer 2023 collections including New York mainstays Proenza Schouler, Michael Kors, Tom Ford, and Tommy Hilfiger. As for the outfits that we all need for a seasonal update, here are five preferred trends that go beyond the usual sequins, sheer or suiting offerings.

Strong Craft

Craft is still strong with designers proposing hand-made prints and textural surfaces as sartorial foundations. There were deconstructed knits and tie-dye at Marni, hand-loomed blanket dresses at Ulla Johnson, and crochet at Gabriela Hearst.

Low Waist Silhouettes

Low waist silhouettes are pulling trousers and skirts down and astoundingly, we dig it. Low skirts were seen at Tibi, lower at Peter Do, and lowest at LaQuan Smith.

Bubble Skirts

Bubble skirts are also popping (could not resist the pun) with an empired version at Ulla Johnson, dropped hem at Carolina Herrera, and utilitarian at Proenza Schouler.

Texture, Texture

Maybe as a solution to the desensitization of the past years, tactile and sensorial surfaces were in abundance. Drip in the form of fringes, tassels, and strings was seen at PatBo, Jonathan Simkhai, and Altuzarra.

Bright Green

Lastly, as if calibrating to the re-invigorated energy of New York City, bright green at the runways of Michael Kors, Aliette, and Bronx and Banco was a fitting metaphor for Spring Summer 2023: rebirth, renewal, and a reminder that if you haven’t yet, it’s a green light to go.
