At the launch of Strokes Beauty Lab’s newest collection, the multi-hyphenate shared her views on the evolution of beauty standards in the Philippines.

A habitué of fashion capitals around the world, Heart Evangelista has been a fixture in fashion weeks in Paris, Milan, and New York, using the cities as backdrops in her social media feed.

In her jet-set life, the 38-year-old artist has been immersed in various sights and different cultures. For Evangelista, however, the Filipino allure is still unmatched. “Traveling the world has shown me a truly diverse definition of beauty,” shares the Vogue 100 personality. “Being Filipina just hits differently. It surely did change in a way that we now feel more confident; flaunting the unique features of our true, core beauty.”

This point of view is shared by Strokes Beauty Lab founder Momoi Supe. In the early stages of curating what would be The Complexion Veil collection, the makeup artist-turned-CEO revealed to Heart that he was arranging a series of products formulated especially for Filipinos.

It was a venture that the fashion influencer was on board for, eventually becoming the brand’s spokesperson for the 8-piece collection.

“I envisioned that the products I release will not only cater to the Filipino skin tone but will also cater to many beauty concerns—and the best way to address these is through products curated by and for the Filipino,” shares Supe, adding that each product took into consideration the country’s humid climate, common skin types and conditions.

“The first time I saw the shade range in this collection, I knew that Momoi and Strokes [Beauty Lab] really had the Filipino skin tone in mind with The Complexion Veil’s light, medium, and deep shades,” shares the actress, revealing that the lineup aims to accentuate the appearance of your skin with its unique hybrid formula.

While Evangelista maintains that skincare is important, she believes that makeup is a way to express one’s self and get a confidence boost. “Makeup is a friend,” declares the content creator. “For me, makeup is definitely extra special and more magical whenever it gives you that ‘lift-me-up’ moment—just when you need it most.”
