Bella Hadid Packed Her Best Vintage for a New York Fashion Week Return

Bella Hadid has been conspicuously absent from New York Fashion Week for the better part of two years. Of fashion’s big four cities, the model has lately favored Paris and Milan—last season, she even made her long-awaited Prada runway debut. (Walking the catwalk four times, no less.) This week, though, Hadid was finally back in Manhattan. She might not have returned to the New York runways, but she did make a very Bella entrance onto the party circuit, arriving in town to celebrate her latest campaign with Chopard.

She packed accordingly. Working with her longtime super stylist Mimi Cuttrell, Hadid brought along what amounted to a greatest-hits suitcase of prize vintage: turn-of-the-millennium Prada, mid-’90s Valentino, and crystal-strewn Ralph Lauren included—and a ton of quite major accessories.

For one evening out, Hadid wore a pearl-toned silk Prada dress from the spring 1998 collection, sourced from My Runway Archive, its sweet and delicate fabrication offset with a latex-lined bodice and hem. Cuttrell doubled down on the archival accessories: oval Gucci sunglasses from Chloe Vintage and a cream Prada Tessuto bowling bag from the 2000s, sourced via In The Mood Archives. A pair of sharp red Prada slingback pumps brought the look back to the present. Hadid wore her hair twisted into a silky updo with a sweeping side fringe, with Hassanzadeh jewelry at her ears.

Her Chopard celebrations called for something megawatt. Hadid slipped into a Ralph Lauren spring 2008 gown covered in shimmering crystals, worn with a suite of Chopard jewels, oyster satin pumps, and a sparkling silver evening bag. Beauty followed the same high-glamour brief: her hair slicked into a half-up, half-down style, while dramatically defined eyeliner and warm contour kept it sultry.

Hadid’s daytime wardrobe was every bit as considered. She stepped out in a sandy cream Valentino dress from spring 1996, its bodice gathered into a bow, layered beneath a cropped butter-yellow silk blazer. Matching mules, oversized black Prada sunglasses, and a vintage gold floral-embellished Badgley Mischka bag completed the look. This time, her hair was curled and bouncy—a fittingly bombshell counterpoint to the prim-sweet fashion.

And, lest anyone think Hadid had abandoned the office-siren aesthetic she helped send into overdrive, another outing saw her in a knitted gray sweater dress cinched at the waist and layered over a crisp white button-down. A vintage Givenchy necklace, again sourced from In The Mood Archives, and silver-and-black strappy sandals sharpened the otherwise understated combination. Her blonde hair was blown out into voluminous waves.

It all amounted to a return to form for Hadid, sartorially speaking. Over the past few months, the model has largely swapped fashion capitals for Colorado, where her wardrobe has skewed decidedly more pastoral: prairie dresses, blue jeans, and cowboy boots for horse riding, tree hugging, and modeling sister Gigi Hadid’s new Guest in Residence denim.

For New York, though, Bella Hadid excavated the archives with no runway appearance required.
