Under Mega Global Group, Inc., the world’s premier men’s luxury and lifestyle authority enters its 23rd global market with NBA star Jordan Clarkson, singer-actor Darren Criss, and media personality Erwan Heussaff on its three inaugural covers.
Published under license from Condé Nast, GQ Philippines launches today under MEGA Global Group, Inc. (MGGI) as the title’s 23rd global market, with newly appointed editor-in-chief Danyl Geneciran leading the editorial team.
With more than a decade of experience in international fashion and luxury media, Geneciran previously served as editor of Vogue Man Philippines, editor-in-chief of L’Officiel Philippines, global fashion editor for L’Officiel titles worldwide, and brand director of Privé Alliance.
“Bringing GQ to the Philippines is about recognizing that Filipino stories deserve a place within the global conversation, and that Filipino creativity deserves world-class storytelling. It is also about reflecting Filipino men in all their complexity—their ambition, humor, elegance, vulnerability, and individuality—in a way that feels both aspirational and authentic,” Geneciran says in a statement.
What began as a New York magazine in 1931 has since become one of the world’s most recognizable names in men’s style and culture. Today, GQ reaches audiences across the US, UK, Japan, Korea, Italy, the Middle East, and Thailand, with the Philippines now joining its expanding international roster.
“The launch of GQ Philippines is a strategic investment in a market we believe has significant long-term potential. The Philippines is one of Southeast Asia’s largest, youngest, and most digitally engaged consumer markets, with a new generation of consumers becoming more sophisticated, aspirational, and influential in how they engage with luxury, fashion, technology, culture, and experiences,” says Archie G. Carrasco, chairman and CEO of AGC Power Holdings Corp. and publisher of GQ Philippines.
“We see GQ as a powerful platform to connect global and local brands with these consumers, while strengthening the Philippines’ position within the broader Southeast Asian media and luxury economy.”
The inaugural issue considers what Filipino strength can look like today, expressed across three covers inspired by the works of national hero José Rizal.
The first cover features Filipino American basketball star Jordan Clarkson, who became an NBA champion with the New York Knicks in 2026. Its concept draws on The Virile Man, Rizal’s wood sculpture of a man lifting a barbell, which some historians interpret as a self-portrait and as a response to colonial-era ideas of Filipino physical inferiority.
The second cover turns to Darren Criss, whose portrait takes its cue from Rizal the Reformist, Martino Abellana’s 1960 painting of Rizal at his desk. Where Rizal’s work placed ideas into motion through the written word, Criss has built his own creative life around performance and communication, moving between acting, music, producing, and performance.
Erwan Heussaff completes the covers with a photograph inspired by Rizal’s portrait on the Philippine one-peso coin. As the founder of Featr, Heussaff has made Filipino food, heritage, and communities the focus of his storytelling, using the platform to bring the country’s diverse cultural narratives to a wider audience.
Elsewhere, the issue looks at strength through Lou Diamond Phillips, whose career helped pave the way for Filipino talent in Hollywood, and legendary bowler Paeng Nepomuceno. David Licauco, Mauro Lumba, and Anton Medalla explore physical and mental endurance through fitness, while other stories examine the communities and traditions that shape Filipino life, from street basketball courts as gathering spaces to the enduring heritage of Buscalan.
Geneciran is joined by deputy editor Chino Hernandez, managing editor Peejo Pilar, and art director Marc Yellow. Across print and digital, GQ Philippines expands its storytelling through original video, photography, and social-first formats, bringing a distinctly Filipino perspective to the wider world of GQ.
