Chromesthesia: When Music Colors In This Collection’s Designs

IQOS’ latest series of devices translates the nature of sound through movement and the colors that shift with it

If there’s anything to take away from the last few years, it’s that an IQOS event wouldn’t be without music. Across its campaigns and collaborations with the culinary, arts, and media industries, the use of sound was said to convey more than just the atmosphere of its activations, as it would eventually underscore IQOS’ ever-changing definition of discovery and shared experiences.

Following its recent campaign centered on unconventional travel destinations, the brand now looks to translate the impact and dynamic identity of sound through its recently released ILUMA i REMIX Edition collection.

“What we listen to can shift with our mood, our energy, the people we are with, or even the moment we find ourselves in,” says brand manager Henry Yap. “That sense of movement and change became an inspiration for REMIX. Rather than interpreting music literally, we looked at the way it can transform how a moment feels.”

Spanning IQOS’ trio of devices, the collection’s music-informed designs combine a variety of colors in brushed metallic and iridescent finishes that shift, disappear, and reappear as they interact with light. “Much like how music can take on a different energy depending on the setting or the listener, each device can feel different depending on how it is experienced,” Yap adds.

From the ILUMA i One’s teal-to-silver gradient body with violet and yellow details to the ILUMA i Prime’s iridescent leather wrap and polished silver case, the collection’s overarching color palette was said to create a visual cohesion without being uniform, allowing consumers to find the combination that fits them best.

The launch of the REMIX Edition collection also saw IQOS collaborate alongside local upcycled bag brand Carry Om to create custom Mala Charm handbags that complement each device’s distinctive patterns. For Yap, these were said to extend the brand’s enduring principle of curiosity, recontextualized as an invitation to explore one’s interests and the environments that shape them.

“That visual transformation reflects something familiar in the way we experience life: our moods change, our perspectives shift, and different environments can bring out different sides of us,” says Yap. “They share one design language, but each expresses it differently, much like the different rhythms, energies, and experiences we move through every day.”
