As a child, Michelline Syjuco built characters out of wood, screws, nuts, and bolts. Years later, as an artist and sculptor, the same impulse leads her to reconfigure metals, gemstones, and stray objects into one-of-one accessories that blend fantasy with rustic charm and ingenuity. “Everything has the potential to become something special,” she tells Vogue.
For In The Studio, we find the wearable art designer in her workshop at the soon-to-open Syjuco Museum, where she talks about her childhood in the alternative art scene, the self-taught lessons that shaped her career since 2008, her comeback with the “Return of the Savant-Garde” collection, and the transformation that’s central to her mixed-media practice.
