10 years after its launch by Jonathan Anderson, the Loewe Foundation Craft Prize continues to spotlight the world’s leading craftspeople as submissions open for the 2027 edition.
First awarded in 2017, the Loewe Foundation Craft Prize draws inspiration from the house’s origins as a Madrid-based leather-making collective founded in 1846. Rooted in the belief that knowledge, mentorship, and sustained support are essential to nurturing the next generation of makers and visionaries, the prize celebrates craftsmanship as a living practice.
With its connections to LVMH and the wider arts community, the prize has grown into one of the world’s most prestigious awards for contemporary craft. It seeks to preserve endangered craft traditions while championing innovative approaches that expand the boundaries of making. Presented annually, it recognizes works created within the past five years that reinterpret traditional techniques through contemporary perspectives across disciplines including ceramics, textiles, lacquer, jewelry, glass, wood, metal, paper, basketry, and bookbinding.
Applications for the 2027 edition are now officially open to makers aged 18 and above. The winner will receive EUR 50,000, while two special mentions will each be awarded EUR 5,000.
Over the past decade, the international competition has helped elevate the careers of some of today’s most celebrated contemporary artists from all walks of life. Among its past winners are Japanese ceramic artist Takayuki Sakiyama, who received the inaugural prize in 2017 for his sea-inspired sculptural vessel; British ceramicist Genta Ishizuka for his sculptural stoneware; South Korean artist Dahye Jeong, who won in 2022 for reviving a 500-year-old horsehair weaving technique; Mexican ceramicist Andrés Anza in 2024; and Japanese artist Kunimasa Aoki, whose expressive terracotta sculpture earned the 2025 prize.
Most recently, the 2026 award was presented to South Korean artist Jongjin Park for Strata of Illusion, a work that combines paper and colored porcelain slip to blur the boundaries between drawing and sculpture. Special mentions were awarded to Italian goldsmith Graziano Visintin for Collier and Baba Tree Master Weavers with Álvaro Catalán de Ocón for Frafra Tapestry, woven from elephant grass using traditional Ghanaian basketry techniques.
Last year’s edition attracted more than 5,100 submissions from 133 countries and regions, highlighting the prize’s growing global appeal across generations and backgrounds. Shortlisted works for the 2027 prize will be exhibited across Europe in spring 2027 before an international jury, including Naoto Fukasawa, Wang Shu, Frida Escobedo, Ibrahim Mahama, and Loewe creative directors Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez, selects the winner.
The 2027 Loewe Foundation Craft Prize is open to makers aged 18 and older. Applications are accepted online through October 15, 2026, with finalists showcased in Europe in spring 2027.
