Method acting gets a bad rap these days, conjuring thoughts of Joaquin Phoenix refusing to drop the Joker demeanor when the camera stopped rolling, or some fledgling starlet over-committing to an American accent despite being from the Home Counties. But sometimes the intermingling of an on- and off-screen persona is a net positive for all. Case in point: Love Story star Sarah Pidgeon and her run of Carolyn Bessette Kennedy-coded looks, which delivered Calvin Klein skirts and Prada bags enough to keep even the most devout minimalists happy.
However, as Love Story moves further into the rearview, it seems the actor is embracing the call of maximalism, opting for a distinctly more-is-more Loewe dress for an event in the Hamptons this week, complete with handwoven georgette strips and paired with peep-toe Jimmy Choos. Leaving the silk slip dresses behind for the time being, Pidgeon has been dialing up the textural flourishes on the red carpet, opting for a risqué leather look courtesy of Givenchy by Sarah Burton at the Emmy’s Season Toast and a leather LBD at the Tribeca Festival Artists’ Dinner earlier this month.
Pidgeon’s star continues to rise – she is due to appear opposite Jake Gyllenhaal in the forthcoming dramedy Honeymoon with Harry (and in real life is rumored to be dating Joe Alwyn) – and we’ll continue to watch her red-carpet wardrobe with interest.
