In terms of A-listers who put their influence to good use, Bella Hadid is up there with the greats. The model, horse girl and all-round fan favourite consistently delivers when it comes to championing pre-loved fashion in particular. Hadid’s passion for – and access to – the most coveted archive pieces is something for anyone with a Vestiaire Collective account to aspire to.
With the help of stylist Mimi Cuttrell, Bella has been building the wearable equivalent of a heartfelt love letter to all things ’90s. There are, of course, the nods to Carolyn Bessette Kennedy minimalism (tortoiseshell headbands, capri pants, trench coats), but she’s far from averse to an opulent eveningwear moment. Pulling from the runway archives of Versace, Roberto Cavalli and Dior, Hadid frequently shows us there is more than one way to raise your skinny sunglasses to fashion’s favourite era.
The supermodel has just popped up on Cuttrell’s Instagram in one such look: a Dior spring/summer 1998 dress by John Galliano, combining a ’20s-inspired silhouette with clever cutouts and a generally opulent attitude. The dress was originally worn in the show by Chandra North, who joined Shalom Harlow on the boudoir-inspired “catwalk”, lounging across beds and beneath crystal chandeliers.
A former ballerina turned Sports Illustrated star, North modelled for Versace, Prada, Victoria’s Secret and more in the ’90s. She also walked Tom Ford’s fabled autumn/winter 1996 Gucci show – another collection that caught the eye of vintage magpie Bella: she famously wore a slinky white dress with a hip cutout and a gold buckle on the red carpet in Cannes, back in 2022.
