The 2026 Golden Globes did not, for once, kick off awards season this year – that honour went to the Critics’ Choice Awards – but, still, everyone knows that it’s the true starting gun for this always exhilarating, frequently confounding and fashion-filled time of year. And when it comes to sheer star power, showstopping red-carpet looks, headline-grabbing speeches, surprising wins and candid celebrity interactions, the glitzy 83rd ceremony delivered and then some. Here are all of the moments you might have missed.
Wunmi Mosaku shut down the red carpet with a pregnancy reveal
The Sinners star looked radiant in a bright citrus yellow Matthew Reisman gown – and had some big news to share: she’s expecting! “I’ve decided to stop trying to camouflage my bump today at the Golden Globes, so me and baby can truly enjoy and embrace the moment fully together,” she told Vogue. Glorious.
Anti-ICE pins were the best accessory of the night

Following the fatal shooting of Renee Macklin Good in Minneapolis, protests have continued across the US over the weekend. On the Golden Globes red carpet, attendees paid tribute to Good and kept the news top of mind with a range of anti-ICE pins which read “Be Good” and “Ice Out”.
The stars of Heated Rivalry were the toast of Hollywood
Having gone from virtually unknown to certified A-listers in the space of just a few weeks, Hudson Williams and Connor Storrie met the moment in drool-worthy suiting. When they later came on stage to present, the room was rapturous.
The LBD ruled
From Lisa to Ayo, Selena to Robin Wright, the long black dress provided the shortcut to effortless chic.
JLaw resurrected the naked dress
Not in black, though? The Best Actress in a Drama nominee for Die My Love, who convincingly brought this trend back from the dead.
A child star upstaged the adults
But, no one displayed more red-carpet confidence than Duke McCloud, aka the kid who goes missing in All Her Fault, who posed like an absolute pro. A bright future surely awaits.

The Rock, Wicked, Leo, Timmy, James Cameron – no one was spared from the host’s blistering opening monologue. Bravo. Bonus points for her KPop Demon Hunters-themed song.

One Battle After Another dominated
Teyana Taylor opened the evening with a spectacular, tearful Best Supporting Actress win. “None of this is taken lightly and none of this is taken for granted,” she told the audience. “To my brown sisters and little brown girls watching tonight: our softness is not a liability, our debt is not too much, our light does not need permission to shine. We belong in every room we walk into. Our voices matter and our dreams deserve space.”

Adolescence’s Owen Cooper, Stephen Graham and Erin Doherty continued their awards season dominance, with their Best Supporting Actor, Best Actor and Best Supporting Actress prizes, after which the show also won Best Limited Series. A clean sweep – and season two incoming.
Rose Byrne officially entered the Oscar race

If I Had Legs I’d Kick You’s Rose Byrne charmingly croaked through her emotional speech after winning Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy – besting Cynthia Erivo, Chase Infiniti, Amanda Seyfried and Emma Stone – and ended by thanking her husband, Bobby Cannavale, who couldn’t be there because the couple are getting a bearded dragon and he went to a reptile expo in New Jersey instead. Iconic. Surely she’ll now be on the Best Actress Oscar shortlist?

The Golden Globes ceremony has long been PDA central for the couple, and this year was no different. Cue the pair looking as cosy as ever, followed by Chalamet winning the Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy prize for Marty Supreme (beating both George Clooney and Leonardo DiCaprio – no mean feat) and shouting out his parents and “partner” once more. Oscars, here he comes.
Wanda Sykes was the MVP

She came on stage to present the award for Best Stand-Up Comedy to… Ricky Gervais. Given the controversial comedian was not in attendance she accepted it on his behalf, thanking “God and the trans community”. Legend.
Jessie Buckley remains the one to beat

Accepting her Best Actress in a Drama statuette, the Irish actor looked incredibly moved. “This is not a normal situation to be in,” she said, giggling nervously. “This is a real honour.” (She added that her husband has been really enjoying the free canapés on the awards trail. As he should.) Prepare to watch her climb podiums for the next two months straight.

Then, Hamnet pulled off a shock Best Drama victory over the likes of Sinners, It Was Just An Accident, The Secret Agent and Sentimental Value.
Julia Roberts brought the room to its feet

The only real standing ovation of the night came not for a winner, but for the rom-com stalwart. And rightfully, so. Roberts leaned into it, telling everyone still seated to get to their feet, admitted to being sad that she “lost a minute ago”, shouted out Eva Victor and told the audience to go watch Sorry, Baby. What could be better?
