The London-based fashion brand unveils new elevated wardrobe icons for Autumn/Winter 2024 at New York Fashion Week
COS made its return to New York Fashion Week, and the historic Brooklyn Navy Yard welcomed the fashion brand’s diverse cast of guests including actors Colman Domingo and Emma Roberts, model Emily Ratajkowski, actress-dancer Mette Towley, and musician Mika Hashizume. But even as the warehouse was transformed into a striking, cavernous maze, it was the 43 looks that walked down the labyrinthine runway that stole the show.
Renowned for their design philosophy of thoughtful, precise craftsmanship and innovative design, the COS Autumn/Winter 2024 Collection was defined by a beautiful combination of fluidity and structure, creating strong and unforgettable silhouettes in a rich, refined palette. Amid rich grays, classic blacks, and pops of earthy green, we see fabrics and traditional designs reimagined through modernist cuts, surprising, irreverent details and innovative layering techniques.
The collection brings its vision of contemporary femininity to life with a softer, almost delicate take on the minimalist, modern tailoring the brand is known for. Coats and outerwear are more sculptural and cinched at the waist. Trouser suits exude more softened structures for effortless elegance. Sheer silk dresses flow with each sweeping stride, kept in form by figure-hugging inner layers. Each look exudes timelessness while elevating the traditional idea of what a fall wardrobe should be.
Similarly in menswear, the traditional idea of suiting and day-to-night dressing is relaxed with looser, softer silhouettes—barrel-leg trousers worn with draped silk shirts, fluid trousers paired with oversized jackets, and smart, thoughtful layering of tones and textures.
The show also serves as the debut of COS ATELIER, which draws inspiration from the elegance of ballet, and features soft shapes, silken, shimmering fabrics, layering and draping—a sophisticated celebration of fluid movement.
Former Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach was spotted attending the show in a black asymmetrical sleeveless blazer with unique details at the back, paired with leather long shorts and ballet-inspired high heels. The monochromatic ensemble is a nod to the spirit of the collection, elevated essentials with surprising, modern details.
In a Vogue Philippines exclusive, Wurtzbach shares her experience:
What was your overall impression of the COS Autumn/Winter 2024 collection?
The minimalism and sophistication were just more than what I expected. The striking silhouettes made a huge impact, and it’s incredible how the details pop when you take a closer look. There’s something magical about seeing everything up close. This collection had me truly appreciating the beauty in every little detail!
What themes stuck out to you the most and why?
What really caught my eye were the themes of fluidity and modern tailoring. In the collection, while silhouettes were structured, it was soft and oversized, and felt very fresh and contemporary, while the sheer separates and relaxed wool pieces gave off an effortlessly elegant vibe. There were also ballet-inspired shapes and movements that brought a whole new level across the collection.
What specific piece from the collection do you see fitting into your wardrobe and why?
Those black coats, belted vests, and oversized sweater dresses from the collection will definitely be a staple in my wardrobe. The modern tailoring and fluid looks are right up my alley.
Do you have a favorite moment from attending the show?
I liked the industrial venue. It fits the minimalist look of the collection. I also liked the accessories that came with the clothes. I found myself keeping an eye on them as each look came down the runway—loafers, pointed kitten heels, ballet fats, quilted clutch bags…I loved them all!
