High-spirits, youthful energy, and liberated style choices serve as the central themes behind Longchamp’s latest entry into Spring-Summer 2024.

Throughout Longchamp’s nearly eight decade-long narrative, the French leather house has had an intertwined story that grew alongside the youth of its time. Despite its long history, the house had only begun its pivot from men’s accessories toward a more style-conscious direction in the early ‘70s, releasing their first series of handbags for the women of that period. This marked a turning point, and is what led to their fashion-forward identity that continues to craft leatherware to compliment the fashion sensibilities of young adults ’til this day.

This creative direction is what sparked the concept behind Longchamp’s latest Spring-Summer 2024 collection. In capturing the freedom of youth, the house’s new collection draws its influences from the high-spirited nature of Parisian universities. Arriving in bright and vivid colors and silhouettes, the collection is meant as an ode to student life, with more lighthearted elements found across each of the collection’s codes.

“This collection is a tribute to university students who are curious, eager to learn, and enriched by their contact with other cultures. They share an apartment in the capital with girls from different countries, and all of them adapt to life in Paris, cultivating a style that draws on diverse inspirations,” explains Longchamp’s Creative Director Sophie Delafontaine.

This latest series features a set of classic bags that have been playfully remixed to fit the collection’s more upbeat tone. Among them, the house’s signature Le Pliage handbag is given a new face, with the word “Longchamp” sprawled across its surface in distinct varsity lettering. Aside from this change, the bag’s metal zippers are fully replaced with oversized, white shoelaces that end in bright green aglets. For this collection, the Le Pliage is also updated in new silhouettes, with totes, crossbody bags, and hand pouches that feature the Le Pliage’s folding elements in colorways of either navy, khaki, or mandarin.

Apart from the Le Pliage, the release sees the tote bag as one of its most recurring accessories throughout the collection. The Le Panier Pliage tote is given a more fluid update, with the leather of its predecessor being replaced in a flexible basket weave material, and Longchamp’s equestrian emblem embroidered into its body. In playing with themes of lightness, the house’s Essential Toile Tote is also remade with a full canvas upper, with its leather handles being painted in green shades.

To round off the University collection, Longchamp also releases a number of other accessories in the form of scarves and footwear for their entry into Spring-Summer 2024. With playful remixes to classic bags like the Le Pliage and their signature silhouettes, Longchamp continues to craft leatherware that reflects the vibrant youthful styles of each era.
