From one generation to the next, modern smartphone photography continues to level the playing field for budding and professional photographers alike
Whether it’s replicating the lighting and color dynamics of vintage film cameras or to film music videos and full-length films like get him back! by Olivia Rodrigo and 28 Days Later, the innovations behind modern smartphone cameras continue to empower professional and aspiring creatives to express their stories the way they’ve always envisioned.
Recently, Vogue Philippines collaborated with HUAWEI to showcase the dynamics between its recently launched Pura 80 Series with professional photographers Gabriel Villareal and Borgy Angeles. From sunrise to sunset, the two creatives channeled their visual styles into their smartphone’s Ultra Chroma XMAGE Camera system, a feature that serves as one of the series’ main upgrades apart from its refined design.
Flat-edged and framed in brushed aluminum, the HUAWEI Pura 80 features a contemporary frosted glass look as a means to emphasize its larger camera suite and X-True™ Display. With its triple-camera setup, however, users can adapt their shots regardless of the environment, be it moments from the city nightlife to close-up portraits of park flora.
The similar developments behind modern AI assistants have also allowed the Pura 80 to add nuanced post-processing and editing tools directly into its camera, allowing users to enhance image quality or remove distractions using its AI remove.
HUAWEI also shared how packaging the Pura 80 Series’ enhanced feature sets within its slimmed design demanded a battery that would allow photographers to maximize each moment they see worth capturing. Aided by the brand’s SuperCharge technology, the smartphone can quickly recharge its 5,170mAh battery, making it easier to stay powered throughout the day.
For HUAWEI, the Pura 80 Series of smartphones was shared to serve as a companion for creatives looking to explore and understand their visual styles for photography without sacrificing the intricacies and authenticity that define it as a medium for storytelling.
“I think we’re at a point where creativity isn’t limited by
Gabriel Villareal
gear; it’s more so enabled by it. It kind of levels the
playing field, while still respecting the craft”
