An artistic vision of Balearic life, LOEWE Paula’s Ibiza 2023 makes a case for reenergized island textures, palettes, and creative energies
An overlooked facet of Ibiza is that it was once the epicenter of the European Bohemian and hippie movement of the ’70s and ’80s, a peculiarity where the port town got its laidback lifestyle from. It was also Paula’s Ibiza—a celebrated boutique in Dalt Vila established in 1972, owned by German architect Armin Heinemann—at the helm of this revolution.
Fifty-one years since its launch, the brand known for its playful silhouettes and summer hues is reveling in its revival under LOEWE creative director Jonathan Anderson. Now on its seventh collection, LOEWE Paula’s Ibiza 2023 is paying homage to the hedonistic and creative spirit of the island.
Bringing together a roster of fringe hemlines, leather leaf patches, and weaved accessories in organic earthy tones, the Madrid fashion house enlisted Colombian singer-songwriter Karol G and British singer and multidisciplinary artist Alewya to evoke beachside bliss and liberated energy of summer.
Taking cues from the floral pieces of LOEWE Spring/Summer 2023, the two multitalented artists don the leaf intarsia dress in satin nappa leather and accessorized them with raffia bags, woven espadrilles, and playful takes on sunglasses.
The 2023 collection also features versatile pieces that play on texture and airy silhouettes like crochet polos and dresses, real alocasia leaves recast into tops, and slinky satin lambskin dresses.
The lineup also puts a spotlight on accessories that capture the essence of the Balearic island life such as totes in woven raffia, baskets made from Iraca palm that were cultivated and sundried in Colombia, and sunglasses that play on oversized shapes and resembling flower petals.
The LOEWE Paula’s Ibiza 2023 campaign was filmed and photographed by Gray Sorrenti in the outdoors of Ibiza and Colombia with other international creative talents like surfer Mason Hyce Barnes, Spanish musician Guitarricadelafuente, model Emily Ratajkowski, travel vlogger Devin Halbol, and Spanish-Catalan singer Bad Gyal.
