The award-winning Filipina actress joins the cast of the Paul Feig-helmed Amazon original movie Grand Death Lotto.
Following a successful 2023 awards season run, Filipina actress Dolly de Leon is set to be in the Amazon original action-comedy movie Grand Death Lotto, according to a press announcement.
The actress joins the supporting cast of the Paul Feig film, which stars John Cena, Akwafina and Simu Liu. Along with de Leon, Amazon Studios also announced additions to the supporting cast: Ayden Mayeri (Somebody I Used To Know), Donald Elise Watkins (Project Artemis), and Sean William Scott (Welcome to Flatch).
The movie, said to be set “in a very near future” in California, tells the story of a Grand Lottery established with a caveat: if the winner is killed before sundown, the killer could legally claim the prize for themselves. Akwafina will be playing the role of Katie, the new LA transplant who accidentally finds herself with the winning ticket, while John Cena, and Simu Liu will be playing rival jackpot protectors Noel (Cena) and Louis Lewis (Liu). No word has been released on de Leon or the other supporting cast’s roles.
Grand Death Lotto is de Leon’s first Hollywood project after her supporting role in the Palm d’Or-winning Triangle of Sadness by Robert Östlund, earning her BAFTA and Golden Globes nominations. De Leon is the first Filipino actor to be nominated for a major acting category at BAFTA, and is the first Filipino to be nominated for a Golden Globe.
No release date has been set for the film. The movie will be available on Prime Video across 240 countries and territories worldwide.
