The London-raised Filipino musician is joining forces with the megastar for The Eras Tour next year.
Taylor Swift just made history as the first artist to dominate the entire Billboard Top 10 list in a single week with her new album Midnights, among many other record-breaking feats. If her album’s wild success wasn’t incredible news enough for her devoted fans, Swift just made an announcement on Good Morning America that she would be returning on tour this coming March.
Entitled “The Eras,” Swift details that this tour will showcase a journey of all of her musical eras since the beginning of her career. This will also be the first tour since her 2018 album Reputation.
She followed the announcement by posting a list of all the guest artists she’s invited to accompany her through “The Eras.” They include the likes of Paramore, Phoebe Bridgers, HAIM, and none other than Filipino musician Beabadoobee. Hot off her “Beatopia” Asia Tour, the Iloilo-born and London-raised artist has been making waves over the past few years as one of the hallmark faces of Gen Z.
Despite feeling alienated at times as a Filipino growing up in another country, Bea never let the pressure to conform erase her connection to her motherland. These days, the 22-year-old has been championing the representation of Filipino artists and culture, even sharing in interviews how OPM artists like APO Hiking Society and The Itchyworms have influenced her sound.
“The Eras” tour is sure to usher in a whole new spotlight on the burgeoning young singer, who called the opportunity a “dream come true” on her Instagram. Here are five songs to get to know Beabadoobee:
Coffee
The first song Bea ever wrote on her guitar was “Coffee.” She released the intimate yet green track online, not expecting massive success, yet it surprisingly received hundreds of thousands of hits in no time. Most of her fans discovered her through this song, which was also sampled by Canadian music artist Powfu to great success.
If You Want To
“If You Want To” was released as part of Beabadoobee’s Patched Up EP in 2019. Despite also being one of her earlier works, the song remains one of her most popular songs on Spotify and most viewed music videos on Youtube. In an interview for Genius, the singer describes writing about her bouts of sleeplessness and sleep paralysis.
Care
“Care” was the lead single for the singer’s debut album Fake It Flowers. In an interview, she describes it as having “end-of-a-90s movie vibes” alongside some societal anger. This song also marked her first-ever music video for this album, which she had to shoot herself during the pandemic.
Last Day On Earth
Bea’s EP Our Extended Play, was written alongside the 1975’s Matt Healy and George Daniel. The song “Last Day On Earth” combined Healy and Beabadoobee’s trademark musical styles.
Talk
The singer’s latest album Beatopia was released in March 2022. Its lead single called “Talk” has Bea reminiscing about Tuesday night parties and romantic flings in a sound that brings listeners back to 2000s pop radio.
