For Vogue Threads, Rhett Eala’s homage to a Parisian designer is a fitting tribute to silk and the city.
Aptly titled “Ode to Christian,” Filipino designer Rhett Eala masterfully weaves classic elements of dress into airy silk organza, creating an homage to the French designer Christian Dior. “Since this will show in Paris, we wanted to capture that quintessential French elegance,” Eala explains. His contribution to the Vogue Threads exhibit features three exquisite components: an elegant top, a structured skirt, and a delicate petticoat, each reflecting a meticulous attention to detail.
Eala values timeless techniques that enhance modern garments while honoring his roots. “Filipino craft is about beautiful embroidery and unique finishes,” he says. By merging traditional craftsmanship with contemporary design, Eala reflects his innovative spirit and showcases Filipino fashion on a global scale. His piece demonstrates how fashion can bridge cultures, blending foreign influences with local styles into a unified story that resonates with authenticity and creativity.
On its second anniversary, Vogue Philippines invites homegrown and global creatives to Vogue Threads, an experience that weaves Philippine culture, creativity, and community into the world. Its inaugural edition celebrates Filipino artistry and heritage, through an exhibit featuring the works of designers from the islands of Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.
