“It took 24 hours [all together, from different days]. I did the whole work by myself, from draping, to pattern, sewing, and beading.”

Taking inspiration from the taklobo mollusk from the West Philippine Sea, Hannah Adrias showcases a terno for Vogue Threads.

Hannah Adrias is a fashion designer known for her modern and utilitarian take on traditional garments, particularly the terno. She gained significant recognition after winning TernoCon 2020, a competition dedicated to reimagining the terno, which features the distinctive butterfly sleeves. Adrias’ winning collection was a military-themed ensemble that included a silk terno jacket, corseted jumpsuits, and hand-woven skirts with beads and straps.

Adrias began her journey in fashion without any formal background in drawing or design. She enrolled at Slim’s Fashion and Arts School, where she honed her skills in dressmaking, draping, and bespoke tailoring. Her TernoCon mentor, Lesley Mobo, played a significant role in shaping her design philosophy, encouraging her to prioritize the wearer’s experience when creating garments.

Named after her grandmother, Pining, Adrias showcases a terno top for Vogue Threads, inspired by the taklobo, a giant mollusk commonly found in the West Philippine Sea. Embellished with freshwater pearls and gold beads, she uses the terno as a base, with two layers of tapis on the hips.

On its second anniversary, Vogue Philippines invites homegrown and global creatives to Vogue Threads, an experience that weaves Philippine culture, creativity, and community into the world. Its inaugural edition celebrates Filipino artistry and heritage, through an exhibit featuring the works of designers from the islands of Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.
