Everyday classics got a major upgrade on the red carpets this week.

This week, the best dressed stars also proved that even the dressiest of looks can still have a cool, casual slant. Via unexpected designs, Hollywood stars upgraded everyday classics like tanks, jeans, and slip dresses.

When Dakota Johnson kicked off the 2023 Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah, she opted for a head-to-toe denim look by Magda Butrym. The trench, strapless top, and wide-leg trousers felt cool and sleek. While out and about in New York City, Yara Shahidi also rocked a refined take on the timeless white tank dress—only, her Brandon Maxwell dress had a panel of black sequins and floral embroidery on the bottom half. In Dubai for the special Beyoncé performance at the Atlantis the Royal hotel, Kendall Jenner chose Schiaparelli’s brown slip dress that had a golden, coin purse-like finish on the neckline and straps (her flip-flop heels also approved to be a fashion-forward take on a casual garment).

It’s not to say this week didn’t have its traditional glamour, however. At the premiere of her new film Shotgun Wedding, Jennifer Lopez slipped into a Valentino Couture “naked dress” embellished with silver sequins and a giant yellow bow. Gabrielle Union also shined in Prada’s strapless tri-color gown; The green, pink, and black combo was as delicious looking as Neapolitan ice cream.
