From Rihanna in Alaïa to Lady Gaga in Versace, the champagne carpet was sparkling with Hollywood glamour.
Tonight, the 95th annual Oscars kick off at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, California. This evening’s star-studded ceremony, honoring the year’s best performances on film, is being hosted by comedian Jimmy Kimmel—his third time assuming the hosting role. Leading the nominations this year are buzzy films such as Elvis, Tár, Everything Everywhere All at Once, and The Fabelmans (all of which are up for Best Picture). Cate Blanchett, Ana de Armas, Andrea Riseborough, Michelle Williams, and Michelle Yeoh are up for Best Actress; Austin Butler, Colin Farrell, Brendan Fraser, Paul Mescal, and Bill Nighy are up for Best Actor.
Before the trophies are handed out on stage, however, Hollywood A-listers will hit the Oscars step and repeat in their finest evening wear. The Academy Awards are, after all, one of the most-watched red carpets in the world. Those in attendance are expected to bring forward show-stopping, glamorous ensembles. A big ask, but this awards season has already seen many of the nominees deliver on the fashion front. Michelle Yeoh, for instance, has been embracing sparkle, as seen on her sequined Armani Privé number at the Golden Globes. Cate Blanchett has also been re-wearing dresses that she’s worn on the red carpet in the past, such as the reworked Maison Margiela design that she wore to this year’s BAFTAs. On the menswear front, Austin Butler has been gravitating towards sleek, classic suiting from labels such as Gucci or Saint Laurent.
Whoever ends up winning accolades tonight, it’s clear that what the stars wear to the Oscars will be just as discussed as who wins. Be sure to check back here for all the red carpet outfits as they are uploaded in real time, and report back for our Best Dressed list of the evening, to see which stars came out on top. The stakes are high—but the excitement is even higher.
