Embrace lightness and ease in varying forms this season, whether it’s in assemblages of sheer layers or contrasting tailored separates.
For this spring/summer season, the runways suggested a feeling of lightness; floaty layers add volume without the extra weight. Wispy, diaphanous trails of gossamer flitted about the models at Prada, while sheer ruffles trailed down ultrafine knitted lace dresses at Christian Dior. And at Victoria Beckham, delicate transparency emphasized asymmetrically pinned hemlines. If not sheer, designers were in favor of breezy poplins, fluid silk, and cotton voiles, which took form in billowing sleeves with ruffled accents at Patou, and sculptural draped tops at Louis Vuitton.
Charmed details added visual interest to deconstructed layers; Simone Rocha’s clutches were embedded with gemstones and pearls, while Blumarine’s sculptural butterfly handbags were affixed with dangling gold trinkets and roses. Statement earrings almost always made the finishing touch, guiding the eyes down the length of the form.
Elsewhere, designers elongated tailored silhouettes, tapping into a sense of ease that still felt polished. Blazers and waistcoats extended the shoulder line, and on pleated pants, waistlines were brought even higher as volume was added to the hem. Contrast only added more dimension to relaxed tailoring: See the mix-and-match of black and white separates at Tibi and Saint Laurent.
Whether your affinities lean toward sheer layers, sleek tailoring, or both, see Vogue Philippines’ edit for the coming season below.
