Held at Shangri-La The Fort’s grand ballroom on August 29, the star-studded Vogue Philippines gala marked the arrival of the title in the Philippines. The milestone had everyone in their most elegant black-and-white ensembles outfits—a showcase of some of the brightest local designers as well as international legends. Of course, the beauty looks were equally dazzling. Attendees like beauty queen Catriona Gray brought attention to her eyes with striking, angled eye makeup, while photographer Shaira Luna arrived in a vintage glam strapless number paired with a bold red lip. Below, the evening’s biggest beauty trends and who wore them best.

Sultry Smokey Eye
2015 Miss Universe Pia Wurztbach looked every bit regal in a black and gold sunburst-pleated gown by Gucci. The beauty queen wore her long straight hair down while donning her signature sultry smokey eye. She kept the rest of her face simple and bronzed, opting to highlight her natural beauty. “I wanted to go for a Pinay beauty look,” she tells us.

Glitter Lined Eyes
Youth advocate Mandy Bermudez Romero dawned a timeless black and white gown topped off with classic diamond jewelry. To match her sparkly necklace, Romero chose equally shimmery eye makeup. She managed to keep it fresh and elegant by using one single, fine stroke of glitter liner over her crease while keeping the rest of her face neutral and natural.

No-Makeup Makeup
In a perfect balance of feminine and masculine, the established photographer and model Jo Ann Bitagcol paired her bell-sleeved Joey Samson robe and trousers with super sleek, pinned-back hair (a beauty statement on its own), and a no-makeup makeup look. She looked radiant.

Foxy Eyes
Gray, meanwhile, attended the event wearing an upcycled statement dress. Her Maison Glarino by Jaggy Glarino dress featured sculptural flowers actually made from recycled plastic bottles. It’s “something beautiful, but with depth,” the 2018 Miss Universe winner tells us. She paired the number dress with a clean updo and a simple foxy eye.

Bold Red Lips
Photographer Shaira Luna is never too far away from a vintage piece. After recently getting married in a thrifted dress, Luna also stepped out for the Vogue Philippines Gala in a stunning black-and-white archival Jessica McClintock gown. Complete with her signature bob and fringe, she topped off the retro-classic outfit with a bold red lip.

Graphic Eyes
This year’s Miss Universe Philippines, Celeste Cortesi, stepped out in a black Maison Gladimir Echaverre outfit, which highlighted her statement eye makeup. Cortesi had sparkling lids, accentuated by sharp, graphic lines. Two eyeliner flicks and another statement line on the crease. It tied the whole look together.
Glassy Skin
Designer Patty Ang arrived in a gown of her own creation with glassy skin and minimal makeup. An ode to Korean beauty, her fresh face lightened the whole look, making it feel like a contemporary take on black tie attire.
