Warmer weather always brings about the long debate: a mini or a maxi? Whether your summer skirts affinities lean either way, it’s always best to consider how the hero piece is styled. For those in favor of the maxi, edge up wispy layers with leather cinchers or corsets; and for the structured mini, consider pairing it with louche, ultra-cropped tops for your skin’s time in the sun.

Summer sculpt
Styling-wise, the spring runways move past “boho-chic” in favor of a Summer in the City. Breezy skirting doesn’t have to feel beach-centric. At Louis Vuitton, printed leather belts were layered over wispy silk layers and nautical stripes, while, at Ferragamo, an oversized belt sat low on the hips over airy poplin; and at Tibi, a white maxi skirt anchored a black embellished purse worn on the waist.
For a bit of contrast, consider a cinch for your next evening fiesta, paired with that light-as-air skirt that lets you go with the flow.
Mini moment
High heat, higher hems. The leggy silhouette still persists following Miu Miu’s sheared-off khaki number of Spring 2022, but this time, in more structured, prim variations: Just see Sandy Liang‘s pleated numbers finished with bows and Louis Vuitton’s button-tab color-blocked details. Even the Resort shows this year predict the short-short skirt is here to stay, with both Vuitton and Chanel heralding a ’60s revival via minis with modish flair or decked out in tweed.
Find a new summer uniform in micro-minis paired with cropped tops (Think bralettes or bandeaus) to loosen up the structured silhouette.
