Beyoncé is a fashion chameleon both on- and off the stage. Currently in her Cowboy Carter era, the singer has been rocking Westernwear left and right. Before that, she was channelling her inner disco diva, painting the world silver on her Renaissance tour. One to commit to a theme, Beyoncé always shows out for the Met Gala.
The seven-time attendee has a long history with the Met, attending for the first time in 2008 for “Superheroes: Fashion and Fantasy.” When it comes to the Met red carpet, Beyoncé has historically kept Givenchy close to the heart: she’s worn custom creations from the French label’s former creative director Riccardo Tisci for her last five appearances.
In 2012, she stunned in an ombré haute couture gown with a purple feathered train that trailed behind her as she ascended the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s grand staircase. Fast-forward to 2014, when Beyoncé turned heads in a plunging mesh dress cut down to there and a matching veil pulled over her eyes. She came back the next year in yet another dangerously sheer, crystal-embroidered confection that put her famous curves on full display. But perhaps the most daring turn of all was the now-über-trendy “naked dress” she wore in 2015, playing with the “China: Through the Looking Glass” theme.
Beyoncé hasn’t hit the museum’s red carpet since 2016, “Manus x Machina: Fashion In An Age Of Technology.” But will we see her return for the 2024 Met Gala, “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion?” Only time will tell. But while we wait with bated breath to see if Bey saunters up the famed steps on the first Monday in May, satiate yourself with every one of Beyoncé’s flawless Met Gala looks.
