Angelina Jolie Adds a Feminine Touch to the Three-Piece Suit

For many, the words “three-piece suit” instantly conjures the image of John Travolta, mid-disco finger on the Saturday Night Fever poster. But it seems that, after an appearance at the London Film Festival, Angelina Jolie is challenging Travolta for the suiting title.

Jolie hit the red carpet for the Pablo Larraín-helmed Maria Callas biopic, Maria, in which she plays the titular role. While the actor has embraced Callas’s personal inclination toward Old Hollywood glamour on past carpets, she did a complete sartorial 180 in London. Jolie opted for a three-piece suit from Dolce & Gabbana, wearing a black blazer over a partially unbuttoned waistcoat, which showed off the swallow tattoo on her breastbone, as well as a sliver of midriff. She rounded out the look with a pair of slim black trousers and square-toe heeled boots.

While she may not have gone for the high-femme style that Callas was personally known for, Jolie did balance out her masculine look with some more feminine touches. She accessorized with a pair of large gold statement earrings from Buccellati, the posts and the teardrop-shaped pendants each embellished with a diamond surrounded by an ornately engraved design.

The actor is no stranger to playing with menswear. In May, she and her 15-year-old daughter, Vivienne, attended the opening night of Reefer Madness: The Musical dressed in a trompe l’œil necktie T-shirt, which she wore with a strong-shouldered blazer and floor-grazing trousers. Whether she’s leaning into her sexy side or offering a more cheeky take, we’d say that both looks suit Angelina Jolie.
