Last night saw the third annual Rare Impact Fund Benefit in Los Angeles, hosted by Selena Gomez. The annual fundraiser raises money for organizations supporting young people’s access to mental health care and appropriate, expansive resources A charitable auction was held, with performances by Laufey and The Marias. Jimmy Kimmel was the evening’s M.C. 1% of all funds from Gomez’s Rare Beauty go toward the fund year-round.
Gomez, all smiles, took to the red carpet in a shimmering satin pink-purple mini-dress with a matching extra-long shawl and pumps, styled simply with Effy drop diamond earrings. It was, course, her glam that shone brightest, and in particular, her nails. Her manicure was done by her go-to nail artist Tom Bachik, who described the set as “blush jelly chrome nails.” It’s a fun, feminine combination of two of this year’s biggest nail trends: jelly and chrome. Perfect for party season.
It leans into those classic, glamorous ’90s aesthetics, a bit of a modern twist achieved by the contemporary chrome sheen. To get the look, Bachik advises to begin with clipping the cuticles (he uses his trusty Tweezerman tools), before prepping the nails with Olive and June’s nail strengthener. Next, the base is Olive and June’s builder gel color in the shade Blush Jelly, adding Bachik’s own brand Cosmic Chrome collection in the color Aurora. To finish, Olive and June’s gel polish top coat. Gomez opted for her signature long almond nail shape, tapered ever-so-slightly to keep them feeling both elegant and polished. So far, so very Selena Gomez.
Together, Bachik and Gomez have signaled some of this year’s biggest nail vibes. There was the pink mocha nails, which were a perfect transitional set, and the red carpet-ready peach champagne nails that she wore to the Oscars. Getting married to Benny Blanco just last month, she opted for another toasted mani.
For last night’s event, Gomez also sported a coiffed bob, styled with flicked out ends and a center part by her longtime hairstylist Renato Campora. It wasn’t unlike her sleek bridal bob, which was similarly elegant and featured just a bit more of a nostalgic, silver screen-like wave. For the rest of her glam, Gomez experimented with a more ’00s inspired lip combo, opting for a darker, taupey lip liner and cooler-toned brown gloss, finishing the look with a smoky gray eye and blooming pink blush.
