Jam Lips Are Summer’s Sweetest Beauty Trend

Summer comes with visions of sun-dappled picnics and farm stands stocked with all manner of delicious fruits: apricots, strawberries, cherries, and peaches. Of course, those summer scenes can’t help but conjure images of something equally sweet: jam.

It’s little wonder, then, that “jam lips”—a glossy, layered look that glows with the colors of sun-warmed fruit—has joined this summer’s list of food-influenced beauty trends. The appeal is clear: Not too heavy, not too precious—but just enough summer sweetness.

The origin of the jam lip trend

Jam lips made an appearance on the Spring 2025 runways, including at Peter Do and Rachel Comey, who sent models down the runway in glossy lips stained in shades of berry and grape.

Jam lips are easy—they’re basically a fusion of blurred lips and the glossy, fruit-infused lip looks of the 2000s. To achieve the look, first follow the steps for blurred lips: Apply a matte lipstick pencil or lip tint by tapping it on to the center and inner areas of the lips, then blend the color outward with your finger. The idea is to leave the lip contour unlined for a natural, effortless vibe; you want them to look slightly undone and softly smudged.

Next, add a nostalgic, naughts-inspired obsession to the top: gloss. Use the same outward motions for just-bitten, stained lips that shine.

For a lighter, less-involved version, skip the two-product process and choose one highly-saturated lip gloss in a warm, fruity hue. Then, simply tap it on to your lips using outward motions from the center. Either way, the goal is the same: Rich, juicy color with a light, shiny finish that glistens in the sun.

The best products for jam lips

Earlier this year, Hailey Bieber’s beauty brand Rhode launched its Peptide Lip Tint in PBJ (a deep raspberry hue), which makes achieving jam lips easy-as-pie. To get a super-juicy, ultra-saturated lip, layer on the brand’s Pocket Blush Purple Berry. Or, try Violette FR’s Lip Nectar for hydration that isn’t sticky or drying.
