Margaret Qualley’s Latest Updo Is Straight Out of the ’60s

Margaret Qualley may—like her mom Andie MacDowell—be associated with her tumbling curls, but the actor is actually Hollywood’s biggest proponent of a ladylike updo. Just take her latest effort for the Chanel Resort 2026 show in Lake Como, where Qualley added a retro French twist to her similarly nostalgic tweed shift dress and cat-eye sunglasses.

Described as “a modern take on the French twist”, the coiffure was crafted by Qualley’s go-to hairstylist Anna Cofone. Cofone sectioned Qualley’s hair and spritzed it with Authentic Beauty Concept Nymph Salt Spray. Next, she lightly blowdried the actress’s tresses with Tymo’s Air Hype Lite before going in with the Authentic Beauty Concept Glow Spray Serum, then “building movement and shape” with the Curl Go gadget, also by Tymo. To prep the base for backcombing Cofone reached for Authentic Beauty Concept’s Airy Texture Spray, distributing it through sections of Qualley’s hair, before twirling it all up into a twisted bun and leaving a face-framing section of her hair loose at the front.

Chanel make-up artist Tyron Machhausen was behind Qualley’s similarly ’60s-inspired beauty look: eyelashes and eyebrows were groomed and amped up to the max, drawing attention to her piercing green eyes, while her base was kept neutral and natural.

A fan of understated blush, Qualley rocked a rose-coloured hue over her cheekbones and the bridge of her nose – highlighting a smattering of freckles. Lips were adorned with a layer of nude lipstick and a slightly blurred-out cupid’s bow.
