Ala Paredes
Author
Ala Paredes, a visual artist, performer, and educator residing in Sydney, Australia, delves into her cultural heritage and inherited memories through her primary medium, watercolor. Renowned as a courtroom sketch artist for the high-profile Ampatuan Murder Trial in Manila, Paredes gained international recognition in 2010. Her artistic talents extend to street art, winning the Best Novice prize at the Chalk Pavement Art Festival the same year. In 2013, Paredes unveiled her debut solo exhibition, "Without Memory, Without Desire," at Gaffa Gallery. This thought-provoking display featured 365 self-portraits, crafted daily, drawing inspiration from the spiritual practices of Japanese Buddhist monks, exploring the profound concept of repetition as a pathway to enlightenment.
