Afua Hirsch is a writer, TV presenter, and former barrister known for her advocacy on race, gender, and human rights. She began her career at the Open Society Institute in West Africa, championing democracy and transparency. Transitioning to law, she worked on cases involving civil liberties before joining The Guardian as a legal affairs correspondent. As The Guardian's West Africa correspondent, Hirsch covered a range of stories, from corruption to conflicts, and produced impactful documentaries. She later moved to Sky News, reporting on social affairs and cult-related narratives. Currently, Hirsch is the Wallis Annenberg Chair of Journalism at the University of Southern California. She contributes to various prestigious publications, presents documentaries, and co-founded Sika, an ethical fashion brand. Her work spans books, including a children's book on legal trailblazer Lady Brenda Hale, and participation as a judge for the Booker Prize.
