When Anne Curtis first debuted her stylish bob on Instagram last September 29, a viral movement rose on the platform as fans and followers clamored to compliment and adopt the multimedia artist’s new ’do.
In her post, celebrities likened Curtis to Natalie Portman. Earlier in her career, she was also compared to film and fashion icon, Audrey Hepburn. No less than expected from a resounding classic, the star’s influence has not only found its place in television and media, but also in philanthropy, business, and beauty.
While being one of the most influential and distinguished personalities in Asia, she has become a chameleon of sorts; colorful, (r)evolutionary, and versatile. And in her first Vogue Philippines cover shoot, Curtis showcases just that.
Skin Focused
Two key looks define her style over the course of this shoot. The first look, according to makeup artist Robbie Piñera, is a style sported by Curtis featuring a fusion of favorites that reflect what suits her best.
We have muted, warm, brown tones that emulate a sheer and raw glow, paired with a messy yet stylish cut. Rendered by Curtis’s longtime hair stylist Raymond Santiago, it frames her expression.
“Anne is very comfortable in her own skin,” Piñera says. “She doesn’t like having too much coverage,” as she loved showcasing her trademark freckles and beauty marks. To complement the signature tones around her eyes, Curtis’ lips are painted with a refreshing gloss to give the look a rosy, nude finish.
Classic Makeup
While the first look is rendered in nude and natural tones, the second radiates nostalgia. For starters, Piñera explains that red has, since then, been Curtis’ favorite lip color; for a time in the past, it was her signature lip for different brand endorsements.
For the star’s second look, the 37-year-old was discreetly brushed with a washed ivory eyeshadow to emphasize her elongated black liner and heavy mascara, and styled with a clean updo.
The goal, according to Piñera, was to make it look “graphic,” but not plakado or overdrawn. To create this look, Piñera mostly used color palettes from Curtis’ own beauty brand, blk cosmetics, and applied skin products from La Mer for locking in moisture and Tom Ford Beauty for illuminating.
Curtis’ look, much like her bearings as a star, is a classic. As Piñera even puts it: “She was Anne Curtis during her day,” just as she is Anne Curtis now.
