For the Love of Dogs: An Afternoon of Thoughtful Pet Experiences

For Lexus, celebrating National Dog Month is an exercise in thoughtful experiences, Japanese craftsmanship, and the details that bring pets and owners closer.
In the world of “fur parents” and dogs alike, August becomes “Dogust.” The month-long celebration began with a simple purpose: to celebrate the bond between humans and dogs, encourage shelter adoption, and promote responsible pet care. Even Vogue has joined in, bringing back Dogue for its second annual competition, crowning Sir Spud as the winner. The affection has also been showing up in recent features of celebrities’ and designers’ four-legged best friends, including Tory Burch’s miniature poodles, Chicken and Slim, Millie Bobby Brown’s miniature poodle Winnie, and Serena William’ Yorkshire Terrier, Chip.
For Lexus, National Dog Month offered an opportunity to explore that idea through an experience designed for both pets and their owners through a two-day event, Crafted Companionship: A Refined Pet Experience. “At Lexus, we believe thoughtful experiences are built through attention to detail and genuine care. Celebrating National Dog Month allowed us to extend the spirit of omotenashi to Lexus customers and their pets,” says Tricia Hechanova, assistant vice president for Lexus Philippines. “Taking the time to create something tailored to our pet’s needs and preferences demonstrates a deep understanding of what brings them comfort and joy.”
The global automobile brand’s idea of creating a special moment comes down to the “refined” details. “In the context of spending time with our pets, “refined” means approaching everyday moments with care and intention,” says Hechanova. “Through creating nutritious pet-bento boxes, Lexus customers experienced how creativity, craftsmanship, and attention to detail can elevate simple acts of care.”
In the Lexus Showroom in Mitsukoshi Mall, the experience came twofold: a pet bento workshop inspired by Lexus’ Japanese roots and a photo shoot. The bento, led by The Pup-Up Bistro, taught pet owners how to craft a bento box featuring healthy and dog-safe ingredients such as quinoa, adlai, okra, bell peppers, edamame, and dried ingredients such as beef liver, salted egg, and salmon, and a bonus of pup-friendly chicken kaarage.
The bento box followed the traditional way: picking your base, adding protein, followed by green veggies, side dishes, and condiments to top it off.
“Pet parents” also got to choose their treat of choice through coffee and sandwiches from neighboring cafe Key Coffee. “As pet ownership becomes increasingly focused on companionship and shared experiences, we see pet care becoming more personalized and thoughtful,” says Hechanova. “Pet owners are finding new ways to anticipate their pets’ needs and create moments that reflect genuine care, comfort, and companionship.”
