How This Pampanga-Based Furniture Brand Grounds Its Craft in Heritage and Collaboration

The Pampanga-based brand is celebrating its 13th anniversary.

Since 2013, Pampanga-based bespoke furniture brand genteelhome has taken pride in letting the storied heritage of its local craftsmen shape personal expressions that extend beyond the home. From launching collections alongside known interior designers and architects to displaying local craftsmanship alongside its contemporaries at the Maison&Objet Paris interior design show, the brand now celebrates its 13th anniversary by looking back on its creative foundations.

“genteelhome actually began with a simple favor,” says creative principal Katrina Blanca De Leon. “A friend asked if I could help design a piece of furniture for her home. That one project unexpectedly led to another, and before long, I found myself leaving my corporate career to pursue what eventually became genteelhome.”

Adapting to the creative shift into bespoke furniture design was guided by the collaborators and artisans she has worked with over the last 13 years. What began as simply tailoring its designs to clients’ preferences has since evolved into a practice rooted in empathy and a value for shared storytelling.

Throughout its creative process, the brand shares that it starts by listening to its clients and understanding both their qualities and the furniture they hope to see realized. From learning about their lifestyles and personal values to their comfort preferences and which memories to translate, each step was described to integrate as much of its clients’ narratives within the final design. “When furniture reflects a family’s lifestyle, values, and aspirations, it becomes more than beautiful; it becomes timeless,” De Leon adds.

Translating those interpersonal narratives into furniture was said to require the hands of Kapampangan craftsmen who have carried such traditions across generations. The brand also explains how the province’s heritage in craftsmanship has allowed its local artisans to develop a deep relationship with the materials they interact with, turning every curve, joint, and finish into a product of patience and intention.

While the brand prioritizes tailoring its products to specific clients, De Leon claims that the collections displayed in its showrooms contain unique narratives of their own. From the charred finishes of its Burnt Collection to the sculptural mirror frames designed to depict movement, the team at genteelhome explains how each piece is meant to serve as a touchpoint for connection and emotion within each space they inhabit.

Similar to the brand’s emphasis on Kapampangan craftsmanship, De Leon also elaborates on its use of Balakat and Betis trees and how they represent the province’s history within each grain, texture, and imperfection. She adds, “We work only with legally sourced timber and trusted suppliers who comply with environmental regulations. By focusing on timeless design, exceptional quality, and repairable construction instead of disposable furniture, we encourage conscious consumption.”

Over the years, the brand has worked alongside the likes of architect Royal Pineda, Singaporean designer Keat Ong, and Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray to create pieces that not only resonate in shared storytelling, but have since influenced the brand to broaden and evolve their approach to thoughtful craftsmanship.

The brand explains, however, that despite having the opportunity to collaborate with such contemporaries, its purpose is to remain alongside the clients who continue to share in the genteelhome experience, whether that’s within their homes, businesses, or shared creative spaces.

As the brand celebrates its 13th anniversary, De Leon says its commitment to handcrafted, story-driven furniture serves as a platform not only for local craftsmanship but for Filipino artistry to be recognized beyond the home.

“As we continue to grow, our goal is to keep elevating local craftsmanship by investing in our artisans, refining our craft, and creating pieces that are both purposeful and enduring,” she says. “We believe that when you stay committed to quality, authenticity, and thoughtful design, your work speaks for itself.”
