Together with VENZON, JJ Acuña Brings a New Lighting Collection to Life

In collaboration with VENZON, JJ Acuña launches a lighting collection, “Luz de Flores.”

Inside Open House World in Makati, a new lighting collection blooms. Designer JJ Acuña, in collaboration with VENZON, launches “Luz de Flores,” a collection of floral wall, floor, table, and pendant lamps.

Initially, the early versions of the Luz de Flores lamps were designed for an IVF clinic in Singapore, whose iconography is a lotus flower, symbolizing abundance and fertility. “The collaboration came naturally after seeing versions of the lamps up on the wall at the clinic in Singapore. I took a photo and sent it to Alexis, and I told her: ‘We gotta bring a version of this to market!’ She got to it right away and made it her own personal project!”

The lamps feel as though they come from another era, with their playful, contemporary-art design and retro floral motifs.  The oversized floral forms and saturated reds, burgundies, smoky greens, and translucent whites feel inspired by the 1960s–70s pop and psychedelic design, with a cleaner, more modern approach.

The idea was also to create lighting fixtures that were multifunctional, versatile, and playful. “I feel like in general, the world needs more sconces and fun floor lamps. Some iconic and decorative lightings can feel too masculine or streamlined, and extravagant. For me, I just felt the market needed well-crafted pieces that are urban, whimsical, and easy.”

The collection also marks a new chapter of VENZON, with founder Cris Venzon handing over the business to Jackie and Alexis Venzon. It has also challenged the studio’s craftsmanship, with their expertise in laser cutting, welding, and finishing. “My dad spent years refining our capabilities in metal fabrication, and we were among the earlier local manufacturers to really explore how technology and craftsmanship could coexist, “Alexis says, adding, “A huge part of our process is experimenting with shapes, materials, and construction techniques to push what locally made lighting can look like.”

Acuña shares his excitement over the two Philippine brands coming together. “Part of what excites me about working with VENZON is that the studio is half Filipino but also half Mexican. The brand and the Venzon family are both local and global. It’s the same as JJ Acuña / Bespoke Studio. I grew up in Texas, our studio launched in Hong Kong, and now we have presence in Manila.”

“What makes these pieces truly Filipino are the hands that make them,” Alexis adds. “Every piece is laser cut, welded, hand-finished, assembled, and painted in our workshop in Pampanga by a team of craftsmen who have been with Venzon for years. These are people who have spent decades creating technically demanding bespoke pieces with extraordinary care and precision.”
