As the summer heat continues to beat down in the Philippines, one might feel more enticed to stay at home watching a series, or perhaps be lured by watching a film in an air-conditioned cinema.
This month, a few films are coming back to the Philippines through streaming, as well as some of Cinemalaya entries returning to local silver screens. Meanwhile, Billie Eilish relives her previous world tour “Billie Eilish – Hit Me Hard and Soft” with an immersive 3D film hitting the cinemas. Director Irene Villamor also returns to the cinemas for a second time this year, following her box-office hit The Loved One, with the highly anticipated film Midnight Girls.

Wuthering Heights
Shortly after its theatrical release last February, Wuthering Heights will officially go to streaming in the Philippines on May 1. Directed by Emerald Fennell, Wuthering Heights is a stylized adaptation of Emily Brontë’s novel starring Margot Robbie as Cathy and Jacob Elordi as Heathcliff.

Pelikula ng Bayan: Cinematheques
From May 5 to 15, the Film Development Council of the Philippines presents “Pelikula ng Bayan: Cinematheques,” which features a curated lineup of contemporary Filipino cinema. For this lineup, FDCP features Cinemalay 2025 entries such as Raging, Padamlagan, Republika ng Pipolipinas, Cinemalaya 2024 entry Kono Basho, and Sinag Maynila Independent Film Festival 2026 winner Pinikas.

Billie Eilish – Hit Me Hard and Soft: The Tour
On May 8, fans of Billie Eilish can experience her sold-out world tour, “Billie Eilish – Hit Me Hard And Soft: The Tour” in cinemas. Directed by Academy Award winner James Cameron, the film is presented in immersive 3D and will be screening exclusively at SM Cinemas.

Song of the Samurai
Song of the Samurai will premiere on HBO Max on May 9. Based on the manga Chichuran: Shinsengumi Requiem, the live-action jidaigeki series follows the Shinsengumi samurai corps, featuring Yuki Yamada as Hijakata Toshizo.

Midnight Girls
After her box office hit The Loved One, director Irene Villamor presents a new film on May 13, entitled Midnight Girls. Set in Nagoya, Japan, the story follows four Filipina entertainers forming a sisterhood while dealing with the emotional cost of their jobs.

The Loved One
Shortly after its successful theatrical release, The Loved One will hit streaming on May 14 on Netflix. Starring Jericho Rosales and Anne Curtis, who are former lovers who reunite 10 years after their breakup.

Ladies First
On May 22, Netflix will release a romantic comedy starring Sacha Baron Cohen and Rosemund Pike. In Ladies First, an arrogant, womanizing man has his life of power and wealth upended when he wakes up in a parallel world dominated by women.

Obsession
This May 27, Warner Brothers will release a film that reminds you to be careful about what you wish for. Directed by Curry Baker, Obsession follows the story of a hopeless romantic who breaks the mysterious “One Wish Willow” to win his crush’s heart.

A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder
A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder returns for its second season on May 27. The six-episode season, based on Holly Jackson’s second book Good Girl, Bad Blood, follows Pip (Emma Myers) as she is drawn to the disappearance of key witness Jamie Reynolds before Max Hastings’ trial.

The Four Seasons
On May 28, The Four Seasons returns to Netflix. Featuring eight new episodes, the comedy, created by Tina Fey, continues to follow a group of friends navigating life and vacation traditions, picking up after the dramatic events of season one.
