Sabrina Carpenter defined her Coachella presence during weekend 1 with her “Sabrinawood” theme. Her visual branding carried into weekend 2, where she wore custom Dior pieces across both weekends.
After turning her entire Coachella stage for weekend 1 into a “Sabrinawood” spectacle that screams her branding with theatrical elements and vintage props, one may wonder: what trick does Sabrina Carpenter still have up her sleeve for weekend 2? The answer was heard loud and clear the moment her “Juno” performance transitioned into “Vogue,” bringing the queen of pop herself, Madonna, on stage and making her performance even more on brand.
When Sabrina Carpenter was announced as a headliner for Coachella at Empire Polo Club in Indio, a certain imagery was expected if you had been following her guest appearances and concerts: a hyper-feminine style blended with a retro aesthetic from the 50s and 60s.
These elements have consistently solidified her branding. Therefore, it was no surprise that during Coachella weekend 1, a large “Sabrinawood” sign and multiple scenic changes, such as a dive bar and a recording studio, were featured on her stage. Her performance heavily showcased songs from Short n’ Sweet and Man’s Best Friend, achieving a cinematic appearance; naturally, it was up to her outfits to make or break the experience. She chose to complete her branding using a custom Dior designed by Jonathan Anderson.
Throughout her “Sabrinawood” set in weekend 1, she wore five Dior looks, starting with a ruby red peacoat layered over a sequin mini dress for her opening act. The entire night featured her in increasingly Hollywood-inspired looks, including a gold sequined dress with flowing chiffon sleeves, then a more laid-back look with a white beaded-fringe bra top for her “Bed Chem” segment, and ultimately closing the show in a black corseted bodysuit paired with a sculptural lace cape.
With her complete Dior look in weekend 1, the visual aesthetic extended into weekend 2, where she made headlines with her collaboration with Madonna. Her outfits from weekend 1 were reimagined with a twist; the crowd witnessed her opening performance featuring the same custom Dior design, now in teal, swapping out her sparkly red mini dress from the previous week. Additionally, the counterpart to the sparkly gold dress was a similar design, but adorned with pink sparkles for her return to the stage.
Standing beside the queen of pop, Carpenter and Madonna’s outfits showcased similar silhouettes with their bodysuits. For this look, Carpenter brought the show to its climax in a custom white strapless bodysuit by Dior, featuring lace and bow-tie details at the chest. Jumping along to “Vogue” and Madonna’s new song “Bring Your Love,” she paired it with white Mary Jane pumps and drop earrings.
Sabrina Carpenter has not only found her voice but also her look through these elements. Her Coachella stage, being her first major collaboration with Dior, also represents a new era of “onstage branding” for the house.
