Is it that time already? Awards season quietly kicked off on Sunday night with the 2025 Governors Awards—honoring Debbie Allen, Tom Cruise, Wynn Thomas, and Dolly Parton—in Los Angeles, California.

With the Academy Gala and the LACMA Art + Film Gala in the very recent past, we are officially entering the season of glamorous red carpet dressing that’ll carry us through to the Oscars on March 15. But as we often notice here at Vogue, the smaller ceremonies tend to invite the most exciting red carpet dressing. At last year’s Governors AwardsAngelina Jolie opted for a labelless vintage look, while Tilda Swinton wore a vibrant, tomato red ruched dress from the under-the-radar label Standing Ground.

This year proved no exception. Jessie Buckley looked utterly chic in a black turtleneck and voluminous black skirt. On the menswear front, Jacob Elordi and Joe Alwyn both channelled their period pieces through their suiting.

And, speakig of subtle method dressing: Ariana Grande leaned back into Glinda pink in an asymmetrical fall 2007 Dior dress, purchased from Timeless Vixen. Her Wicked co-star, Cynthia Erivo, who opted for an impressionistic pistachio Givenchy by Sarah Burton coat with multicolored florals. They weren’t the only co-stars to hit the carpet in tandem, either: Chase Infiniti and Teyana Taylor represented One Battle After Another in style.
