This year, Tissot revitalizes one of its past creations with an updated look and sustainability-driven technology

Over the last few years, the Swiss watchmakers at Tissot have revisited a select number of their heritage timepieces, elevating their designs and core functionalities for a new generation of enthusiasts and outdoor adventurers alike. Earlier this year, the brand then looked to harness the power of the sun for the relaunch of its PRC 100 series earlier this year.

Initially debuted in 2005, the PRC 100 was conceptualized at a time when Tissot began serving as the official timekeeper for sporting competitions such as the MotoGP™ and the NBA. And though this would imply a utility-focused design, the PRC 100 instead condensed a precision stopwatch into its thick bezel casing, becoming a fashionable alternative alongside its matching multi-link bracelet.

In celebration of its 20th anniversary this year, Tissot then modernized both the timepiece’s design and functionality with the release of its PRC 100 Solar series. Shared to serve as an everyday companion, the watch arrives with an updated slimmed stainless steel case and bracelet, all while retaining the model’s distinctive 12-sided bezel.

To subtly integrate the brand’s solar-powered technology, Tissot placed a sheet of conductive honeycomb-shaped cells just beneath its sapphire watch crystal, allowing for an indefinite use experience so long as it stays exposed to sunlight. Consequently, the PRC 100 Solar also features an End of Energy Indicator, where the second hand pauses its movement every four seconds should it need a solar recharge.

With a name that stands for “Precise, Robust, and Classic,” Tissot’s PRC 100 Solar not only revisits one of the brand’s previously sought-after models with modern hardware, but also creates a sustainable yet elevated accessory that honors its inherent design.
