Lacoste reimagines the tennis skirt into the Lenglen bag, an accessory that you can carry with you on and off the court
In the 20th century, tennis uniforms reflected the fashion codes of Victorian England. Women who played the sport were often dressed in floor-length skirts, corsets, high collars, and long-sleeved blouses known as “tennis whites.” From Wimbledon to the French Open, players would even compete in stockings, restricting movement on the clay or grass surfaces.
It wasn’t until French tennis player Suzanne Lenglen came onto the court in her signature sleeveless tops, calf-length pleated skirts, and flapper-style headband that it became a catalyst for tennis fashion. Lenglen turned tennis whites into a style statement as much as a symbol of athleticism.
The eight-time Grand Slam winner’s on-court sartorial choices became the inspiration for Lacoste’s newest launch: the Lenglen bag. Debuting at the Fall-Winter 2024 show, the design draws directly from the pleated silhouette of the tennis skirt, reimagined in leather. Its interior is spacious, allowing for essentials to fit in with its structured form, crocodile pull-tab zipper, and adjustable straps available in a variety of sizes and finishes.
The Lacoste Lenglen pop-up will also feature the Fall-Winter Fashion Show 2025 colorway , including Silver Mirror, Fairway, Elderton, Varech, and Honey, available only at Greenbelt 5. These limited shades appear alongside the French brand’s accessories, and fragrance. Celebrities Catriona Gray, Bela Padilla, Sarah Lahbati, and Sofia Andres also attended the launch toting their tennis skirt-inspired bags. The FW25 core colors of the Lenglen include noir, khaki, cristalline, flan, and coffee.
The Lacoste Lenglen pop-up is located at the Greenbelt Fashion Walk from September 18 to 30, 2025. Visit the Lacoste official website for more information.
