“Creativity isn’t limited by gear, it’s more so enabled by it; and it kind of levels the playing field, while still respecting the craft,” shared photographer Gab Villareal
At the BGC Arts Center, Taguig, creatives of various mediums came together for a black-tie evening to celebrate the launch of the HUWAEI Pura 80 Series of smartphones. From a photo exhibit featuring works from photographers across Asia to a short film shot on a quiet night in Marikina, the event also showcased the brand’s latest collaboration with Vogue Philippines to further emphasize the brand’s claimed inspirations from fashion and sculptural design.
As guests entered the main hall’s gala-like atmosphere, product expert Ernest Ortega gave attendees a formal introduction to the Pura 80 Series, elaborating on the phones’ updated look, the influences behind them, and their updated camera suites.
To showcase such feature sets, however, HUAWEI first welcomed artist and chief experience officer Jericho Rosales, who retold his time spent with the Pura 80 Ultra smartphone through a short film emphasizing its lowlight and macro photography features.
Later on, MEGA Global Licensing Inc. president Suki Salvador took to the stage to highlight the Pura 80 Pro and Pura 80 Ultra devices for day-to-night presentation for the next installment of Vogue Experiences.
“At Vogue, we believe that the eyes have to travel. Only when one travels, moves, sees nature, objects, and other people, do they become richer,”
shared Salvador.
“For our latest Vogue Experiences, we invited photographers Borgy Angeles and Gab Villareal to bring their distinct methods of storytelling to Manila and Makati with the HUAWEI Pura 80 Pro and Pura 80 Ultra smartphones.”
From sunrise to sunset, Angeles and Villareal took to exploring the nuances of urban life in the environments they thrive in. Done alongside HUAWEI’s 1-inch ultra-large sensor, moments like a somber Manila Bay morning or Poblacion’s neon-lit streets retain their natural balance and brightness, all while the Switchable Dual Telephoto Camera captures wide shots of clear cityscapes or close-up shots of park flora.
As the events’ formalities continued with presentations from master trainer Josel Dela Cruz and Philippines country head Peter Peng, guests were then guided to an experiential section of the Arts Center to utilize the Pura 80 Series’ cameras in a specialized, dimly-lit room decorated with spotlights and various floral arrangements.
“Regardless of the medium, day or night, it’s the wondering eye that is truly capable of discovering stories worth telling. And now, with the Pura 80 series, the gap that once divided professionals from casual photographers begins to coalesce, letting anyone and everyone tell their narratives the way they always envisioned,” Salvador ends.
