Joseph Bermudez Captures the Creative Community at the Vogue Studios Philippines Launch Party

For photographer Joseph Bermudez, the best part of the Vogue Studios Philippines Launch Party was meeting and making new friends across different creative fields. Last Wednesday at the Shooting Gallery Studios, he roamed the space with his trusty flash and camera set-up, eager to capture the sense of community he felt around him.

As one of three photo diarists for the evening, Joseph pursued a mix of spontaneous moments and directed shots. From smiles to neutral expressions, silly faces, and mid-conversation laughs, his images frame guests at their most candid. Cool tones provide a modern edge, but the hazy, vintage look also evokes a sense of nostalgia, which Joseph achieved by scanning print-outs of his photos. “There’s this feeling of rawness and grit in the scans that I do,” he says of his mixed media approach. While the final images appear small, they capture scenes that feel expansive and energetic.

Seeing many of his colleagues in the same venue, Joseph was motivated by a burst of excitement that lasted for the whole event. When asked who he was happy to see at the party, he exclaimed, “Anz Hizon!” the producer and media channels editor of Vogue Philippines, whose newly-launched department was tonight’s cause for celebration.

Below, view the Vogue Studios Philippines Launch Party from Joseph’s perspective, which centers people who, in his words, see their lives as works of art.
