Bold, graphic, and unapologetic, Michael Kors new Spring/Summer release redefines the different design elements that the designer had established over the years
There was always an effortless cool that resonated throughout the many styles brought to life by Michael Kors. From collections of ready-to-wear clothing down to the experimental codes of its runway presentations, the designer had established a name through a more minimalistic approach toward fashion. Apart from its emphasis on highlighting simple, yet striking visual elements, the eponymous label has been synonymous with the jet-setter lifestyle as an essential for sophisticated travelers.
In paying homage toward its jet-setting stature, Michael Kors unveils its new Spring/Summer 2024 collection amidst the backdrop of beaches and tropical destinations. Situated in the heart of Malibu and Los Angeles, the brand celebrates its 20th anniversary with a collection of garments and accessories that are both bold and saturated, while also balancing the brand’s minimalist details throughout each look.
“I wanted the campaign to personify the personal style of women and men who are cool, confident and always up for adventure. They effortlessly mix the relaxed and casual with the sleek, and they define the spirit of the next-gen jet set,” says Kors as he defines his newest collection.
For this current release, neutral-toned garments contrast against the natural color palettes of sand, sea, and skies. Due to its tropical setting, each article of clothing is meant to blend summer styles, featuring relaxed silhouettes and an emphasis on movement through lighter fabrics and materials.
Tailoring in the form of its black linen blazers, dresses, overwashed denim, and outerwear are oversized and unstructured, with each piece being streamlined to drape against the natural grooves of the body. Footwear is also a prominent feature of the collection, alongside barely-there sandals, slides and mules that each highlight the casualness of the summer season.
Apart from these articles of clothing, the collection is rounded out by a series of accessories that underscore the “effortlessness” that the brand had become synonymous with. Two new bags— the Colby and Tribeca, are unveiled in a number of variations and colorways.
The Colby is first seen in a polished metallic finish and is upholstered in a full leather upper. Its fastening is also structured in a way that looks similar to the lock of a belt, and is highlighted with silver detailing that compliments its variations of black, white, silver, and zebra print that stand out amidst the collection.
The Tribeca shoulder bag highlights the “sleekness” that Michael Kors often refers back to with each of his design elements. Among its most prominent features, the bag is highlighted by a quilted leather base that adds depth to its design due to its elevated surface area, and also includes an adjustable strap held together by chain links. As the final item in the collection, the Tribeca is released in both a small and large sizing, with the option to choose between metallic silver, gold, black, white, and navy respectively.
